Madeley Police Station reopened on Thursday 19 September 2002 with a special ceremony presided over by Chief Constable John Giffard and Councillor Ashley Howells.

Councillor Howells says "We are now justly rewarded for our long fought campaign to restore proper policing to our village.  My sincerest thanks to those 2500 souls who signed the petition - let's now look forward to a peaceful and crime free future".

Policy S14: Design of new buildings and significant alterations to existing buildings
Link

In determining applications for development that involves the erection of new buildings or the significant alteration to the external appearance of an existing building, the Council will have regard to the design criteria listed in Policy S13 and the character of the buildings and the area in which the development is proposed to be situated.

Developments that are unsympathetic to the overall environmental quality of a locality will be resisted.

A Village Design Statement has been prepared by Madeley Parish Council in partnership with the Borough Council and has been adopted by the Borough Council as Supplementary Planning Guidance. Similar work is proceeding in Whitmore and others may follow. Applicants for permission for development within the areas covered will be expected to take account of their provisions.
