Marie Curie Cancer Care is seeking supporters from Newcastle and Madeley to become involved in a new and exciting fundraising group to raise money for local cancer care.

An initial meeting is being held on Thursday 27th June at The Bush Pub, 199 High Street, Silverdale at 7pm. This will be an informal meeting for everyone to learn more about the group and a chance for supporters in the area to meet each other, and anyone interested in joining the group is welcome to come along.

Marie Curie nurses provide free nursing for people with terminal cancer and other illnesses who wish to be cared for at home at the end of their lives. The 33 Marie Curie nurses in the Cheshire and North Staffs have never been busier and provided more than 14,000 hours of nursing care last year.

The new fundraising group will hold events, help with supermarket collections and also have the opportunity to share their own ideas to raise funds to grant more local people their wish of dying at home.

Local Fundraiser Laura Tomlinson explains, “The support of these fundraising groups is absolutely invaluable to us and a group like this will certainly make fundraising even more fun for our supporters in Newcastle and Madeley. We need different types of people who can offer a variety of skills to help us raise money for palliative cancer care. You might be great at organising small or large events like Coffee Mornings for example. You might be good with money and figures, you might be able to take minutes, or put a collection rota together, or be a happy to speak in public about the service that Marie Curie provides. Whatever your skills are, the fundraising group will need them. We are really excited about getting our local supporters together to raise even more money for the charity!”
