Dementia Friendly Community

Madeley Practice, Madeley Parish Council and Madeley & District Community Association have joined forces to make Madeley a Dementia Friendly Community.  Brigitte Knowles, who is the Elderly Care Facilitator at Madeley Practice, has already been very proactive in offering free Dementia Awareness Information Sessions (supported by the Alzheimer’s Society), which 75 people have attended so far.  Information regarding future sessions can be obtained from Brigitte on 01782 750274.

We have been running Music for Memories sessions in the Madeley Centre, which have proven to be beneficial to older people and carers.  Professional musicians run the sessions, and cover songs from the First World War to the present day.  These sessions have been funded by the Parish Council & Borough Council.  We are hoping to bring these sessions back in September.  They are open to all and are free of charge.  Please contact Debbie Burns on 01782 751164 for further information.

One in fourteen people over 65 have a diagnosis of dementia, making it very likely that we all know someone who is living with dementia.  We are committed to raising awareness of the problems surrounding people with dementia and their carers.  Knowing more about dementia, and how you can support people in their everyday activities is a positive move for everyone in our community.

Help us to make MADELEY a Dementia Friendly Community!
